Catsheys

Quintessential Qualities

A luxurious and spacious contemporary rural retreat nestling in ten acres of organic gardens and woodland in the heart of North Devon. With no near neighbours, all you can hear are the birds and the bees. No light pollution means dark or clearly moonlit nights and the brightest stars in all of England!

Set within wooded hills halfway between Exmoor and Dartmoor, Catsheys bed and breakfast nestles deep in the countryside within the parish of Romansleigh, around 5 miles south of the market town of South Molton. North Devon's UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, surfing beaches, historic country houses, fabulous gardens and endless walking country are all close at hand. Catsheys is the ideal place for a truly refreshing country escape.

Inside

  • Two deeply comfortable bedrooms with large cosy beds, crisp bed linen, down duvets and fresh flowers from the garden
  • The super king size bedroom is spacious, cool and contemporary. More like a suite, this room has a New England feel with white wood paneling, modern dressing table, sofa, a vintage Danish chair and windows with views across the valley. The double aspect light and airy bathroom is huge with eclectic fittings, painted wood paneling, a large double ended bath with marble surround and hand shower
  • The king size bedroom is furnished with a French cherrywood sleigh bed and decorated in warm sunny tones with original artworks. A very private room, comfortable and eclectic in style with a mix of traditional and modern furnishings and open views over the garden. The bathroom is modern with a slate floor and large, roomy shower
  • Both bedrooms are supplied with Japanese kimono dressing gowns, fluffy white towels, natural bath products, hairdryers, swimming towels and home made fudge
  • Neither bedroom has a television, but there is free wi-fi access throughout the house and a TV in the living room
  • Curl up with a book in the living room by the wood burning stove or take tea and cake on the veranda

Out and About

  • In spring, take a walk in the woods, smell the scent of bluebells, listen to the lambs in the fields
  • In summer, unwind in the garden, swim in the solar heated swimming pool, relax in the writer's hut and wait for a badger, hare or deer to amble by
  • In winter, explore the surrounding hills, valleys and Devon lanes; come home and curl up by the fire with a good book
  • South Molton market town is close by with its weekly cattle and pannier markets. There's Barnstaple town, RHS Rosemoor gardens, Arlington House National Trust property, Dunster Castle and Clovelly fishing village to visit, plus many more gardens, country houses and authentic Devon towns and villages
  • Croyde, Saunton Sands, Woolacombe Bay and Puttsborough beaches boast a thriving surf scene and endless beaches
  • Ride horses and fish on Exmoor, walk the Two Moors Way, cycle the Tarka Trail, stride the South West Coastal Path, take a boat trip to Lundy Island
  • If you love food and drink there is plenty to indulge the taste buds from Michelin starred restaurants, inns serving local produce to ancient country pubs serving locally brewed ale

Food and Drink

In house cuisine: Breakfast is a moveable feast of locally (organic if possible) sourced and home grown produce. Take the full English breakfast of bacon and sausages from our local farm shop, home laid eggs (any way you like) from our own hens, mushrooms and home grown tomatoes with home made bread or toast; or choose a part of it! We serve home made granola and muesli, fruit from the garden when in season, or fruit compotes, juices, organic yoghurt, home made jam and marmalade, real coffee and teas of your choice.

Eating out: Devon is becoming a foodie's paradise as more and more recognised chefs up sticks and move to an area renowned for the quality of its produce and the dedication of its food growers. Cuisine ranges from Michelin starred establishments to the humble fish and chip shop, and don't forget Devon is the home of the cream tea! We can recommend places to eat and are happy to book you a table. Booking ahead is essential if food is an important part of your holiday.
